Word (1997)    

Artist Note: This piece is dedicated to Stavros Deligiorgus, friend, mentor, roshi, and Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Iowa.

Windsor/Newton Jet Black gouache, Speedball and Tape nibs, transfer letters, dingbats from Dover clip-art books. Dingbats -we all know a few- are used by printers and designers as "fillers" to tie separated blocks of text together.

Publications &: Exhibitions: "100 Words," International Writing Program, University of Iowa. 1997. The IWP published a quarterly with each issue using one word as a theme. This particular issue's word was "word." The piece was the 12 x 9" center spread of the journal.
